What is a Pediatric Dentist?
A pediatric dentist has an additional two years of specialized training and is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. Advanced training is obtained in diagnostic and surgical procedures, along with child psychology and clinical management, oral pathology, child related pharmacology, radiology, child development, management of oral/facial trauma, care for patients with special health care needs, conscious sedation, and general anesthesia. A number of parents choose a pediatric dentist to provide their child’s dental care on the same basis as they select a Pediatrician to provide their child’s medical care. In dentistry, a Pediatric Dentist is equivalent to a pediatrician in medicine.
How often does my child need to see a Pediatric Dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a checkup every six months in order to prevent cavities and other dental problems. However, because every child is unique in its oral health, it is important to get a personalized prevention program from your child’s Sala Family Dentistry Pediatric Dentist.
What age should I take my child in at?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends your child should visit the dentist by his/her first birthday or whenever the first baby tooth has erupted. It is important to establish good oral hygiene and dietary habits at an early age. This first visit allows the parent to receive valuable information regarding their child’s teeth and oral health, as well as establishing a “dental home” for the child.
- Growing up my parents took me to a lot of different dentists, and I was never really fond of any of them. I actually hated going to the dentist. Then I remember about the time I was in middle school, my Mom took me to Sala Family Dentistry. We've stayed with them ever since. And I have to admit, when I left for Basic Training and they did dental work on me while I was there I really missed this dental office. At Sala they actually make it a point to get to know you, and to show that they really do care about you. They treat you like family, and it's always a wonderful experience.
- My wife and I are new to the area. We started at the Sala Family Dentistry in our search for a dentist and also to determine which insurance program to use. Our intention was to then evaluate at least a few other practices before making a final decision. However, we were so completely impressed with Sala, we decided no other place could be any better. We also signed up for their personal insurance program. They are terrific!
- Took my three young children today. It was our first visit to the office. Fantastic experience overall. Everyone left happy and my kids said it was "fun!" Dr. Gray took time to explain what to expect with my children's teeth as they grow older and the assistants even made my 2 year old a happy participant.
